Currently I am working on a series of paintings of figures in interior spaces.  I am interested in reflections, blurring and and enclosure to investigate ideas about connection and disconnection between people, and between past and present.  Previously, I have placed paintings within different environments to act as small dialogues between the subject matter and the space in which it is viewed but in this current series I am including the environment within the painting.

I work from my own photographic references, which I first manipulate digitally, then print out and use drawing or collage to alter further, then re-photograph to create a greater sense of distance between the source and the finished painting.  I like the photographic source image to be faulty in some way, blurry, a bit incomplete, as that makes it easier to find a way into the painting itself.  I continue to make changes, some significant, during the painting process until I have an image I am happy with.
